Observing "A Day to Remember"

Part 3 is up. Very nice series over at Destroyerman by SKSN Jeremy Henthorne.

As a kid I remember going to my Grandfathers house every Christmas. I have four uncles, all of whom served in Vietnam in either the Navy and Marines, and while my grandfather would share stories about WWII and Korea, my uncles would share stories about Vietnam. These were never war stories, the stories they remembered were the times they felt like they were making a difference in someones life, or the moments they shared with their close friends. The stories of war were kept in dark closets, and only came out when there were fewer ears to hear them.

Blogging as a medium has the potential to expose the stories that have in the past only been heard around the living room, or published in the few books that cover events, usually from a third person perspective. Already in Iraq we have looked into the eyes of war, but we have also looked into the eyes of Americans who make a difference. One aspect of blogging about Iraq that stands out is that the stories tend to concentrate on the human element, which is what "A Day to Remember" is all about.

Part 1 and Part 2 set up this tale, if you haven't read the whole thing, we recommend starting from the beginning.
