Picture of the Day

Does anyone else notice something very odd on this map?

I'm talking about the freakishly cold water off the SW coast of Mexico. I noticed there were a few earthquakes nearby last week near that area. For the water to change that much over such a large area, there must be a massive river deep underground that opened up.

If it was fresh water river, I bet the fishing there has gone to hell. That is a huge area of sea to be effected by an earthquake though.

Anyone with opinions or other guesses what could cause that (or if you know the real story) pass it on. When you think about the effects of cold, perhaps fresh water that large in the Pacific near the equator, I imagine it has a fairly substantial environmental impact.
