In thinking about it though, I figured I would point out that Gibbs and Cox did mess around with a DDG-51 Flight III back in the late 80s. It is available here, 5MB PDF.
Just scroll down a bit and hit the "download file" button. This used to be all over the internet, but it is so old this is the last location I'm aware of it still available.
The only reason I point this out is because a lot of people in the comments on Friday made strange statements about 'messing around' with a proven hull. Well, check out that doc, it includes a 40 ft plug for upgrading to two module B VLS, and actually makes three different recommendations.
The point is, the DDG-51 is a very mature design, when something is as well known as the DDG-51 Gibbs and Cox almost certainly knowns what is and is not possible.
