Coming out of what can only be described as a fog, many thanks to those who left suggestions for home remedies. The doctor took blood, did 3 tests, and basically concluded they couldn't find anything wrong, the 103 degree temperature as proof I wasn't 'faking' it. Apparently it was neither bacterial or a virus. Wife suggests it is either a symbiotic relationship with alien life, or I'm a victim of the latest plague to be passed around my 2 year olds day care. Last one sounds like a winner, of those among the crew who got the bug, only those of us who have kids in that day care got sick. None of our kids are sick, yet.
I tried three of the home remedies, they seemed to work at keeping my mind active at minimum. Specifically tried that Vitamin C drink
Surfcaster suggested for staying hydrated, wife says it is healthier than the other drink I mentioned. The Hot Toddy John suggested was very nice during Thursday nights games, it did the one thing required for rest, stopped the cough.
When I woke up sometime yesterday I found myself following SJBill's suggestions, cutting the alcohol with honey. Very nice, thanks much, a coworker is a beekeeper and tips for how to utilize honey in food and drinks are always good. Because its RAW honey I can't cook with it for the family, my youngest isn't old enough for it, so alcohol related honey mixes are excellent. Bill the Shoe was prophetic, with no prescriptions offered by the doctor I somehow traded whatever insurance would have paid for medicine for what amounts to about $30 worth of alcohol, fluids, and ingredients. For better or worse, it certainly made watching all the college hoops more fun.
Looking back, can't say I'm too proud of the quality here last week. I have some strong opinions on the Fallon bit still, but unlike the way it reads I don't think the US and Iran are about to go to war. I will say I won't dismiss the possibility outright anymore. I've seen a lot of the follow on, how Arkin claims Petraeus was involved, or how it has been claimed it had nothing to do with Iraq rather Pakistan. All I can add to a lot of those discussions is how this incident has really given observers insight into the press coverage of the Pentagon, we now have a really good idea which camps in the Pentagon leak for which of the big name Pentagon reporters.
In reading around, I still think we are one of the only places online getting the political context right, and I'm not talking left and right politics, but rather the slow change in the Pentagon under Gates. I think we need to focus in on that more on the blog, because it adds context the aspects of the Maritime Strategy and the general defense strategies we see developing in several trouble spots. We see a real struggle taking place in the Pentagon today. We believe a major change in defense strategy took place in 2005 that has gone largely ignored, the first major defense strategy change since the end of the cold war. We have been to slow to outline this in piecemeal and need to to better.
I'm not very happy we didn't discuss more of the Maritime Strategy points made at CDR's place last Monday.
Will do better moving forward.
Thanks to all, expect things to slowly return to normal over the next few days.
