Intelligence on the Qods Force is the Key

Ever heard of MeK? The People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran [PMOI - also known as MeK, Mujahedin-e-Khalq] is a resistance group in Iran, and also listed as a terrorist organization by the US State Department. MeK has been accused of being a friend of the United States in dealing with Iran, with multiple claims of cooperation. Could be, using a terrorist organization to fight Iran is certainly within the bounds of what is possible by the CIA, and it wouldn't be the first nor the last.

Too often in the search for all things harmonious, we forget the enemy of our enemy doesn't need to be our enemy, even if they aren't exactly our friend. MeK is trying to find a friend in the US and UK, and while it is unlikely the relationship will ever reach that level, MeK is helping out in the cause against Iran in Iraq considerably right now, and their contribution Tuesday has been highlighted by some as a major intelligence breakthrough in dealing with the Qods Force.

Claude Salhani, Editor, Middle East Times, has the story.
Secret details of the production of a new type of explosively formed penetrator, or EFP in military jargon, is being produced by Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps - Qods Force (IRGC-QF), according to sources in the Iranian resistance.

The information was revealed at a Parliamentary press conference held in London Tuesday by the National Council of Resistance of Iran, a group opposed to the rule of the mullahs.

The NCRI revealed precise details of 51 weapons smuggling networks operating between Iran and Iraq. The group outlined the methods used to smuggle the EFPs and exposed the Iranian-backed terrorist militias operating in Iraq.

The information presented to the media was backed up by satellite images obtained by the NCRI depicting a number of what was described as "secret sites."

"Based on the information obtained by the network of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran [PMOI - also known as MeK, Mujahedin-e-Khalq], the Qods Force is responsible for providing more than 80 percent of the arms, ammunition and bombs being used across Iraq," said Hossein Abedini, member of the NCRI's Foreign Affairs Committee.
The rest of the article goes into specific details. One of the weaknesses in the US position dealing with Iran is with getting accurate intelligence. There is enough specific detail provided by MeK here that verification is certainly possible. If the information is good, this could be a very good thing for developing better intelligence on Iran, because even with the MeK slant, the exposure of specific operational details regarding the Qods Force activities is no small feat.

It is starting to look more possible, although not yet more probable, that continued sanctions by the United Nations, EU action against Iranian Banks, and concentrated action that targets the Qods Force could ultimately be the right combination that leads to resolutions regarding the Iranian situation without the use of military force. The intelligence factor against the Qods Force is the key, if the west can crack that code, military action becomes very unlikely in our opinion. This information provided by MeK, if accurate, could be exactly the break many have been hoping for. Shame it isn't getting much attention, probably because most people attack the messengers before learning how credible the message is.
