The
Christian Science Monitor and
CNN both report that a raid by Puntland forces against pirates holding the Panama-flagged ship
Wail resulted in the vessel and hostages being freed safely. However, before we take this to mean an increase in the exercise of competent authority, we should take the following carefully to heart from the CS Monitor article:
One soldier died and three were wounded in gun battles before the group of pirates ran out of ammunition and surrendered. No hostages or pirates were hurt.
This doesn't sound like a capability anyone wants to rely on.
