Eagle1 linked to this NATO shipping website a few days ago, and all I can say is I really like it. Yesterday a new map was released that included updates on the recent pirate activity off Somalia.
Note the map highlights not only location of where the ships are being held by pirates, but where attacks are occurring. For those who have emailed looking for a Somalian piracy update, I'm waiting for some news regarding the MV Iran Dayanat before posting again. So far, not a peep.
There are so many nations involved in the discussion of Somalian piracy, and several more nations now sending ships, that it may be time to begin the communication discussion. In three weeks, there will be Navy and Coast Guard forces from as many as 12 different nations. All those exercises over the years working on cooperation will soon be tested, and as we all know, the communication issues will have to be resolved quickly if the international force is to be functional as a cooperative effort.
