Air Force New Media

During my trip to Washington DC I was able to meet these folks and experience this video. The way the Navy is presented is interesting. I have previously discussed this as a use and learn approach to social media. The Air Force doesn't know where this is going, but they know enough to know they need to be doing it. I think the Air Force approach is smart. Get the discussion going, then once you are more comfortable with the technology, leverage it for your goals. I don't have any advice to the Air Force, but I can think of about 100 ways this technology could help the Navy.

In fact, I've been thinking seriously about this post on strategic communication regarding piracy, and I think the United States Navy is missing a real opportunity to explain Somali piracy to the American people, communicate with the maritime industry, and indeed, communicate to the Somali pirates themselves because the Navy doesn't yet understand how to leverage new media to their advantage.
