Naval War College's China Maritime Studies Institute (CMSI) Annual Conference

The following comes from Andrew Erickson, whose blog should be read by anyone with even a passing interest in Chinese military affairs. Ironically, I got this email tonight just as I began reading Andrew's latest book (coauthored with Lyle J. Goldstein), China, the United States, and 21st-Century Sea Power: Defining a Maritime Security Partnership.
Dear Friends of CMSI,

The annual conference of the Naval War College's China Maritime Studies Institute (CMSI) is a key function of the institute and has the aim of stimulating focused research on Chinese maritime development. The draft program for our sixth annual conference is attached to this e-mail.

This year's theme explores China's claims and capabilities within and around the 'First Island Chain' or in the so-called 'Near Seas.' The six panels will assess the rapidly evolving situations of concern in the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea and also the South China Sea. Then, participants will collectively formulate balanced assessments of capabilities, doctrinal development and plausible scenarios. Finally, they will discuss and debate possible USN responses to China's 'Near Seas' strategy. The conference will take place on 10-11 May in McCarty Little Hall and is open to U.S. citizens only.

For those who wish to register, an online website is available. Please click on http://www.usnwc.edu/cmsiconf2011. ***This site contains all relevant information concerning the conference.***

Once you fill out the online form, an e-mail will be sent to your account asking for you to click a link so that your desired e-mail address is verified.
After you click the link, you are finished; no further action is required.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Action Officer, whose information is displayed below:

I noticed this year Bryan McGrath is one of the presenters - one of many very impressive presenters I might add. A copy of the CMSI Conference schedule can be found here.
