Deep Dives (Analysis)
·       Sustainable Plan and Comprehensive Assessment Needed to Mitigate Long-Term Risks to Ships Assigned to Overseas Homeports, by GAO. The GAO finds that, while homeporting overseas increases forward presence, it also increases maintenance risks. The Navy must asses the risks to costs, readiness, and expected services.

Fact of the Week: The SSBN force will carry around 70% of U.S. strategic nuclear warheads in compliance with the latest START treaty; yet, it has been reduced from a force of 41 in the 1960s and 1970s to 14 of the Ohio-class and 12 planned ORP SSBNs.
